ASTER-24 – VIDA MARINA

SEALIFE
ASTER+S > ART ^ SEALIFE (@asterproyecto) exhibition is born from the SciArt collaboration between the Institute of Marine Sciences (CSIC, Barcelona, @icm.csic) and the ASTER+S research team from the University of Seville with some invited participants (Netherlands and Barcelona). We take this opportunity to express our immense gratitude to all the scientists of the EMBIMOS research group at the ICM for their involvement, enthusiasm, and financing, and also to the Aparejadores Foundation and COAAT of Seville for their unconditional support.

We start from the scientific question: How can citizens contribute to better understanding and caring for our marine ecosystems affected by the Anthropocene?

We focus on understanding how marine life is developing beneath the surface under the influence of climate change, with the additional dimension of citizen science practices as the central modus operandi of the EMBIMOS research group (MINKA: https://minka-sdg.org/). Citizens contributing to the vast task of discovering new species and monitoring the impact of climate and humans more broadly and deeply, to better understand and influence decision-making aimed at protecting or at least mitigating the impact of the Anthropocene.

Our eco-SciArt methodology supports our essence of transdisciplinary co-creation. We believe in the enormous power of Contemporary Art to awaken the general public’s curiosity and individual and collective critical thinking through works conceived and developed through the cross-pollination of creative people.

Seville in June, the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz in September, and the ICM in Barcelona in October will witness our exhibition throughout 2024.
